snapshot of original Boing demo running on the UAE emulator
Boing was demonstrated on the prototype Amiga (codenamed "Lorraine") in 1985. According to legend, it was written ad-hoc in one night by R. J. Mical and Dale Luck. Because the bouncing ball animation was so fast and smooth, attendees did not believe the Amiga prototype was really doing the rendering. Suspecting a trick, they began looking around the booth for a hidden computer or VCR.
Here is the source code (and Win32 .EXE) to an OpenGL port of Amiga Boing program.
Amazingly, the OpenGL version running on a 2x PentiumII/400Mhz with Voodoo3 is not quite able
to animate the bouncing ball as smoothly as the original can running on an real Amiga A1000 (7Mhz 68000).
For Windows, download GLUT32.DLL (unless you have it, most people don't)
and move it either to the same directory as BOING.EXE or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
